This is part 2 of a 2 part series. The transition of traditional AC induction motors to electronic commutated motors, including Brushless DC and Variable frequency AC Motors, poses the question of which technology is best suited to drive these motors to their highest efficiency. ON Semiconductor offers many solutions for driving motors of different power ratings and will discuss the considerations included in selecting between IGBTs, MOSFETs, and SiC in both discrete and module form factors.
