Amphenol’s FLM series of 2 position, wire-to-wire and wire-to-board connectors has been selected, certified, and adopted by the Zhaga consortium as the interface for the new Book 20 standard for indoor LED luminaire applications. The ground-breaking Book 20 standard defines the next-generation smart interface between indoor LED luminaires and integrated sensing and communication modules. Amphenol’s Book 20 connectors are designed to ensure easy installation and connection of various modules to a luminaire, and support plug and play interoperability, enabling enhanced luminaire performance and control using the DALI protocol. Both UL and Zhaga certified, the Book 20 connectors are mechanically robust and easy to use, making them perfectly suited to manufacturers, installers, and service people. End users who wish to upgrade or change out a sensor themselves can easily do so without the need for any specialized tools. No electrician required! The wire terminated plugs and receptacles feature a pin-socket contact interface, available with separate crimp contacts, or with pre-installed contacts and poke-in wire termination capability. SMT receptacles in right angle or vertical configuration are also available, for integration into the body of the sensor. The plastic housings, available in black or white color, feature a “dimple latch” to prevent any accidental un-mating due to vibration or shock, and provide polarized mating alignment for error-free connections. A Book 20 luminaire may be provided by the manufacturer with no installed modules, but it must include a factory-installed Book 20 plug. This permits the installer or end user to simply plug in a Book 20 module, providing instant communication using the luminaire’s pre-installed D4i drivers. Available module functions include motion activated occupancy detection, light sensing to allow daylight harvesting and increased energy efficiency, air quality sensing, and wireless communications with controllers or other luminaires, using Zigbee, Bluetooth or other protocols. It’s easy using the Book 20 connectors to simply install the applicable module to change or upgrade the function of the luminaire. The Zhaga Book 20 standard is “a smart standard allowing for smarter lighting”, essential for Zhaga-D4i luminaire certification, and Amphenol’s Book20 FLM series connectors help ensure full Book 20 compatibility, and fully support Zhaga-D4i compliance.
