67. Types of inductor

Typical types of inductor and its features.

Type of inductor Characteristic

Air core coil

It is a coil that wound the electric wire in the spring shape. Nonmagnetic material is used although nothing is in the core. It is used in the high frequency circuit.

Core coil

It is a coil that wound the electric wire in the cores of the cylinder shape, E character type, and the drum type. A lot of magnetic substance ferrites are used as the material in the core.

Toroidal coil

Toroidal is the meaning of circular, and is structured by winding the electric wire in the ferrite of the doughnut type. It has a stable inductance of less leakage flux, and it is used for the high frequency circuit.

Lamination coil

Layers upon layers of conducting metal are printed on the thin sheet of ferrite and ceramic material, and is structured to connect between layers by Via. A high inductance has been achieved though it is small.

Ferrite bead

It is the one in which the lead wire passed through a cylindrical ferrite. It is used for the EMC countermeasures. It is effective for the high frequency.
