80. Types of Timers and Principles of Operation

A timer is a type of relay that carries out opening or closing of a contact after the elapsing of a predetermined time interval upon receiving the signal.

Types of timers Principle of operation

Motor type timer

This is a timer in which a motor is driven by an electrical signal, and the waiting for the prescribed time delay is made using the mechanical movement of that motor, and then the closing or opening of the contacts is made.

Analog timer

This is a timer in which the time control can be realized easily by a simple dial setting.

Digital timer

This is a timer that permits high precision time setting because the operation is controlled digitally. Even the time setting can be made easily using digital switches, and it is also possible to digitally display the elapsed time.

Damper type timer

This is a type of timer which waits for the prescribed delay time using the damping effect of a fluid such as air or oil, and then opens or closes the contacts using an electromagnetic coil.
